That afternoon, TROBOS Aqua wanted to visit one of the fishery product processing producers in the Bandung-West Java area. When stopping by a minimarket, a mother and her child were seen buying nori (dried seaweed) products. While observing, the TROBOS Aqua team thought that light snacks like nori are liked by many generations so that they have quite a large market potential.
After noon, TROBOS Aqua arrived in the Lengkong District area, Bandung City-West Java and met with Atika Octa Yusyanti, the owner of Nori branded nori. This housing complex was transformed by Atika into a production house and residence at the same time. She can even produce around 500-2500 nori packages every day.
According to Atika, special nori production includes local and imported products. “Imported ones use (seaweed) Porphyra,” explained Atika who started this nori processing business in 2013.
For imported ones, Atika supplies nori ingredients from a special supplier once a month. Currently, she is working with five imported nori suppliers. “These suppliers are different because nori is imported seasonally, so sometimes one (supplier) doesn’t have (stock), the other one does (stock), like that. So we secure the production first,” said Atika who got the idea for the nori business from a 2011 Thai film, titled ‘The Billionaire’ which tells the biography of a nori product entrepreneur.
From the supplier, Atika usually takes a minimum of 10 cartons. Although, the supplier does not limit the minimum number of cartons purchased. She said the amount of stock purchased depends on the amount of stock or not, sometimes if the supplier’s stock is low, she only buys two cartons.
