Cobia fish culture technology, explained Ujang, is an integral part of success in spawning broodstock naturally (both with hormonal and environmental stimulation), success in rearing larvae to become fries and success in rearing fry to rearing (consumption fish).
 
 
Technology Advantage
Kobia fish is a species that naturally occurs in Indonesian waters, so its culture does not interfere with the germplasm. Cobia fish culture technology has a faster maintenance period compared to other marine fish. As a comparison, with a maintenance period of 9 months, cobia fish has obtained a weight of 4-6 kg per head, while the pomfret only gains a weight of 500 g per head.
 
 
The criteria that can be used for cobia culture include: slightly flowing waters, not recommended in closed bays, free from blooms of certain organisms (jellyfish, red algae, etc.) overflow. “Meanwhile, according to the criteria for farmers, both in groups and individually, they have the financial ability to provide feed and floating net cages. With these criteria, the potential of the waters for the development of cobia fish is still very wide open,” said him.
 
 
Cobia fish production centers for consumption are currently located in various areas, including: Lampung Bay Waters (Durian Village, Ringgung, Pahawang Island, Legundi Island, Tanjung Putus), Buleleng Waters Bali, East Coast Pengandaraan West Java, Thousand Islands DKI Jakarta ( Tidung Island and other islands) and other areas that will be used as cobia production centers, including Dumai, Riau (Payung Island waters). Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the maintenance of cobia fish in BBPBL Lampung from the stages of broodstock, gonad maturation and brood spawning, hatching eggs and rearing larvae (seeding), nursery and culturing in floating net cages (KJA).
 
 
Problems and Solutions in Technology Applications
The current problem in rearing larvae is that the SR achievement is still low (<10%), due to high cannibalism, non-uniform growth and sensitive to changes in water quality. The solution is to carry out low stocking, optimal natural and artificial feeding and the use of probiotics.
 
 
“Beside that, the success of cobia fish farming activities cannot be separated from the availability of sufficient fries both in quality and quantity. The preparation process must also be adjusted so that it is on time, in the right size and in the right location and is familiar with the type of feed that will be used in rearing activities,” explained Ujang.
 
 
Cobia hatchery technology has been fully mastered so that mass production of the fries can be carried out and regulated according to needs.
